Which works out because IвЂ™m not a fan of gloss/satin on canvas, without the right lighting the glares are distracting, so it doesnвЂ™t matter that gloss yields a higher dmax. That or I need to play around with the volume and feed adjustment more, but low on resources I decided to spent time on the Epson Matte Canvas.

If you look closely at the above finished canvas itвЂ™s an 8Г—11 wrap using the quick bars, but the surface appears cracked even though itвЂ™s not, the ink just doesnвЂ™t print well on the Epson Satin Canvas.

Anyway, I used PhotoshopвЂ™s soft proofing view to see what effect each medium will have on the print, through trial and error and using adjustment layers I found what worked for me(sort of). If IвЂ™ve lost you I highly suggest checking out tutorials on вЂњcolor managementвЂќ on YouTube, or better yet invest in the CreativeLive class on Color Management for $39. I did a custom config during print using the suggested ICC profile settings from Epson. Strangely the auto feeder accepts the canvas without issue. I used the auto feeder and played around with selecting other mediums like Premium Luster, Fine Art Matte etc. I donвЂ™t know what other solution people have tried but I gave up that method after about 20 attempts.

I can only guess why but when I do get it to вЂњcatchвЂќ the canvas, it spits it back out saying its a вЂњskewedвЂќ even though itвЂ™s not. The issue is and itвЂ™s a common one for anyone thatвЂ™s tried(just google printing epson 3880 canvas) that the rear feeder will not accept the canvas. Epson suggests choosing Watercolor Radiant White as the printer medium when printing, the printer will only accept this medium when feeding through a single slot on the rear of the printer. Technically it wasnвЂ™t the first attempt it was actually my 5th print on canvas, and only the second somewhat successful when considering correct colors, and only successful for sizing for a canvas wrap. IвЂ™d read that a number of photographers have been able to print on canvas with the 3880, so naturally I went to a few forums, did a ton of reading and decided I too could do this. Where I ran into problems is when I decide to use the printer for more than itвЂ™s designed for (of course I would). Pretty easy first steps into doing my own prints, after watching the tutorials like this one: Creative Live вЂ“ Eddie Tapp вЂ“ Color Management Not only are the details finer but the dynamic range is crystal clear, the blacks are darker and the whites are brighter itвЂ™s amazing what the same inks and settings can do on different mediums. I did a few prints on Premium glossy photo paper and compared it to the Premium Luster, holy crap what a difference. I had just enough ink left from the old owner to run some alignment tests, clean printer head and other routine maintenance to get the unit primed. Set of 9 K3 Ink Cartridges for the Printer(ouch!) In preparation for producing some samples at a photo shoot next month, I decided to purchase the following items in various sizes: My head was hurting that week almost as bad as my wallet. I then spent the following week watching and reading many tutorials on proper color management, image capture to print workflow, as well as learning about the various paper/canvas options. I can explain the nervousness and excitement IвЂ™m feeling right now, because this is a big investment of resources that вЂњcouldвЂќ pay off. As luck might have it I found a lightly used one for sale and quickly acquired it for $700 cash, along with a few new inks($62 a pop new) and about $150 worth of paper (11Г—17 and 17Г—22). Still back and forth on how viable the investment would be (itвЂ™s over $1000 new with $250 rebate), I did a last minute search on Kijiji just before I sent some samples off to a printer.
